Summer breezes…

Sumer is icumen in, loude sing cuckou!

So sang the English in the 13th century, and so might we sing now, as the warm days advance and cooler days give way. Summer in Toronto is a time of carnivals and festivals, meetups with friends, picnics and barbecues, soaking up the sunshine on downtown patios as the world streams by.

Summer this year is a little different, though, for me at least, from previous years - the end of one kind of life, working life (so over-rated!) and the beginning of another. Retirement, I think, is a misnomer - what am I retiring from?! If anything, there is more now to do than ever, except that it is on my own dime and my own schedule, and - this is the important thing, right? for my own purposes and satisfaction.

Since this is a blog, and anyone, anywhere on the globe could be reading this, I say ‘my’ purposes and satisfaction - but, since my wife will no doubt be reading this too, let me hasten to add, ‘our’ life and lives, and our satisfaction, also :-) In fact we are agreed: both of us look forward to the years together, and both of us look forward to having time, freedom, and the mental and creative space to take our artistic endeavours and interests to a different level - Rob’s collages (they just get better and better) and my photography.

So think of this little blog, and this first post on my website, as a dandelion blowing on the summer breeze - the warm breath of summer, a dream of images to come, and an advertisement for my work (and Rob’s work too).

Consider this an invitation, also, to pause for a moment, to look at my photographs and browse through my website, and, if you like, to send comments and feedback. Most important of all, think of it as an invitation to return, and return.
